My Top Five that Help Me Thrive!!!

My Other Families

Having a career in education is a beautiful thing. However it is very important to network and have a very strong support system. It is also important not to get so caught up in the advertisement of networks, that you find yourself having joined ten different organizations. I would recommend not joining anymore than five learning networks. You son not want to join too many, because it will be very difficult for you to be active. I have listed my top five favorite learning networks in which I am also a member of.

#5 The Teaching Channel

The Teaching Channel is a Web site chock-full of video resources focused on teachers' classroom practices. Through the site, educators can watch videos of teachers working in their classrooms as a way to learn from, and provide feedback to, peers in their profession. The site's platform also gives teachers a space to share lesson ideas and strategies across a fairly broad range of subjects and grade levels.  The COVA method is very well represented her because teachers are allowed to really have a voice and are really able to express themselves as well.

#4 Digital Is

Created under the direction of the National Writing Project, Digital Is is a media-literacy site created and curated by a community of educators.

As a source for grassroots professional development, the site shares the National Writing Project's ethos of encouraging teachers to help others in their field.

#3 KQED

KQED Education is a site aligned with San Francisco's public radio and TV station that offers a variety of educational media for students and teachers.

For teachers in particular, the site presents several ways to engage with its content. The KQED Teacher Mavens is a professional learning network of educators who share best practices for teaching and learning with public media resources.

#2 ISTE

The International Society for Technology in Education is a nonprofit organization that serves educators interested in the use of technology in education. ISTE serves more than 100,000 education stakeholders throughout the world through individual and organizational membership and support services

#1 TLA and TASL

The Texas Librarians Association and the Texas Association of School Librarians main goal and primary focus is to promote library services and librarianship in school libraries in Texas.

With more than 4500 members, both organizations strive to meet the unique needs of school librarians forming ties with librarians throughout the state. TASL serves more as an advocate for librarians as teachers who are essential components of a robust educational system.
