My Literature Review

Students today are learning differently than they did ten, or even five years ago.  The problem is that many teachers are still teaching the same way they taught years ago and learned years ago.  Since technology is changing at such a rapid pace, our education systems needs to stay ahead of the game in order for our students to be prepared for college and the workforce. Unfortunately, many schools, still do not have internet connection or a plan to provide the resources that students need.  The following review of literature highlights the definition an electronic portfolio (ePortfolio) into the learning environment as an assessments of student writing in English Language Arts (ELA), eighth grade students to determine if submitting writing samples in an ePortfolio indicated a significant grade increase versus students who submit samples with pen and paper. The following research gathered describes advantages of e-portfolios in general at all levels, highlights best practices for instructors and brings attention to the fact that there are some challenges that come along with a project of this magnitude. Disadvantages will also be noted, primarily in two areas, issues with implementation of ePortfolios and in student motivation and understanding of ePortfolios.
